Salmon colored pants (eg Nantucket Red) became popular, as the folklore goes, in the Northeast. A long time ago men who worked the dock wore white in the summer. As they worked boarding and loading salmon and other fish from their catch, their pants would undoubtedly get covered in blood. When they washed themselves down at the end of the day, their white pants had mostly turned a pinker shade.
