Transforming your bathroom into a serene oasis can be a fulfilling project, especially when embracing the Japandi style. Japandi, a blend of Japanese simplicity and Scandinavian functionality, creates a minimalist yet warm space that promotes tranquility and mindfulness.

Here are Five ways you can infuse this harmonious aesthetic (Japandi) and Vista Living mantra into your bathroom (and how I followed these recommendations with my personal budget, style and circumstance):

1. Embrace a Neutral Color Palette

Tip: Start with a calming color scheme that marries warm wood tones with soft whites, beiges, and greys. This neutral backdrop sets the stage for a peaceful retreat, embodying the essence of simplicity and elegance characteristic of Japandi design.

How I applied it: For the bathrooms I chose a light grey color that is consistent with the industrial, cement look of the other rooms. You can see the before and after pics further below.

 2. Choose Streamlined Fixtures

Opt for sleek and functional fixtures that boast clean lines and minimal detailing. The use of simple, high-quality materials in fixtures and furniture, like a wall-mounted vanity or a matte black faucet, highlights the beauty of utility and simplicity.  

My Take: I was limited on budget so kept the existing vanity in the master bathroom and added a wall-mounted vanity to the guest bathroom.

I also included chrome finishes on the faucets and rain shower head, and concrete soap dish and toothbrush holder.

I found pretty much everything I needed from Way fair, Home Depot and Amazon.

3. Incorporate Natural Materials

Tip: Utilize organic elements like bamboo, rattan, and stone to introduce an earthy, grounded feel. Accessories such as bamboo bath mats or stone soap dispensers not only add texture and interest but also reinforce the connection to the natural world, a key principle in Japandi interiors.  

My Take: I picked contrasting wood colors for the vanities and shelves, as well as these concrete soap dish and toothbrush holder items. I also kept consistent silver or chrome for the faucets, shower head, and accessories.

4. Play with Subtle Contrasts

Create visual interest through the careful balance of contrasting textures and colors. Pair light wooden elements with darker tiles or accessories to introduce depth and complexity into the space, while maintaining a cohesive and tranquil environment.

My Take:  Main bathroom contrasting grey tones with chrome concrete and wood as you can see on all the images.

5. Add Greenery and Zen Elements

Finalize your Japandi bathroom with touches of greenery and Zen-inspired decor. Plants such as ferns add a pop of color and vitality, while a small water feature can contribute to a soothing auditory experience, enhancing the overall sense of calm.
